An Update on Housing

May 11, 2020

Dear Students,

It is hard to believe that the conclusion of the Spring semester is almost here. While we all wanted a different end to this academic year, we continue to be impressed and humbled by your resiliency and understanding and by all that our students accomplished despite the challenges.

We know that many of you have been waiting to hear the answer to the question – how and when can I get my belongings from campus? One of the most important aspects in answering that question is to determine if it is safe for students, families and support staff to return to campus. Currently, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s orders place Philadelphia in the Red Phase through at least June 4 – meaning that the stay-at-home order is still in effect, large gatherings are banned, and travel is restricted to only life-sustaining purposes. Understandably, that presents significant challenges to having students and families travel to campus to pack up belongings.

In order to prepare for the time when we will be able to safely unite you with your possessions, we have been working diligently to develop a thorough retrieval plan to address the wide variety of needs of our residents. We’ve been inventorying rooms, ensuring the safety of belongings, and coordinating with campus partners and outside vendors to inform our future direction, and our intention is to update you on our plan before the end of the month.

We ask for your continued patience to allow us to consider all our options in order to find the appropriate balance between public health considerations and the needs of our students.

We look forward to working with each of you to retrieve your belongings. In the meantime, please rest assured that your items will continue to remain safe.

Again, thank you for your understanding and patience. We are proud to be members of your Penn community.
